Customised footwear, sustainable future

Zago and the mission to shape the future of shoemaking

Since 1958, Zago has been synonymous with excellence in the creation of footwear moulds. With a history rooted in innovation and a constant focus on quality, the Italian company has made a name for itself internationally, inspiring footwear manufacturers around the world. ‘The boot mould is undoubtedly a flagship product for Zago,’ says Marina Zago, emphasising the importance of this product in the company’s offering. ‘With this product, we aim for a high level of technical, technological and material integration. The Zago boot mould is designed and developed to meet the customer’s production needs and is available in three variants depending on the type of production the customer wants to achieve: PU/PU, RUBBER/PU and PU/PU with TPU inserts. Its strength lies in the efficiency of the production process.’

Another key aspect for Zago is customisation. ‘No two Zago moulds are the same,’ continues the manager. “For us, the trend towards customisation has less to do with the end user and more to do with the customer itself, which needs to differentiate its product from that of its competitors. We therefore fully recognise the importance of design and uniqueness, especially of the tread, for our customers’ brand identity.”

Sustainability represents a further challenge for the footwear sector. ‘The production of footwear moulds is still linked to traditional materials. For this reason, we are focusing internally on optimising processes to control our environmental impact. At the same time, we are investing in renewable energy for our company.’

Looking to the future, Marina Zago is optimistic: ‘Our contact with the most demanding international customers allows us to envisage a footwear sector that is still evolving. The challenge will lie in the continuous search for increasingly innovative technologies. A distinctive feature in the field of moulding, particularly in direct polyurethane injection, will be our experience in custom design. Dialogue, consultation and flexibility will shape the future.’
