The 1960s

The Discovery of Trekking

The most representative footwear of the 60s is the mountain boot. Its rough charm is charged with new fascination thanks to the great feats of mountaineering and exploration. Walter Moratti’s boots treading the virgin snows of the Ruwenzori mountains or the Orinoco River’s mud became the symbol of one generation of adventure lovers.

The Success of Basketball

Sport as a role model in dress style and everyday life: that’s the trend that has been established over the 70’s, encouraged by the huge popularity of some champions that peaked with the All-Star Game in the NBA championships. The mould developed by Zago for Converse with a new technique considerably contributed to improve the athletes’ performances.

The Love for Tennis

A specific kind of German sports footwear captured the attention of the tennis players and became a fashion cult. PUMA came up with the idea of a fishbone texture, making only apparently for a simple footwear, which however hides the perils of PU. Thanks to a top technological performance, Zago eliminated the air bubbles (typical of the material) and manufactured TENNIS81, a great success constantly renewed over the following years. Timeless.
